My Winter Survival Kit- Part 2: Carmex Lip Balm

Hello again, and welcome to the second part in my blog series; My Winter Survival Kit. I hope you're all having a fabulous festive season and a well deserved break! In this post I will be talking about the lip product that is seeing me through the colder months, Carmex lip balm.

This pot of Carmex I currently own is actually the first pot I've ever owned. I have used Carmex before of course but it's always been through friends who have owned it. Before now I always used to rely on Vaseline or the Superdrug Little Pink Tin. They both used to moisurise my lips a little, but they didn't ever REALLY nourish my lips, which is where my problems began. In the warmer months my lip moisture is never an issue, obviously, but as soon as the temperature starts dropping in the winter, I suffer, I really suffer with my lips. They get dry, they chap, and most of all, they hurt. None of which is a pleasurable experience.

So, one evening during a #bbloggers chat on Twitter I went online and asked the question; "What lip products are there to help get rid of my dry lips?" The response was eye opening, particularly as I found out from a fellow blogger that products such as Vaseline and other Petroleum Jelly based lip products offer absolutely no protection for your lips as they cannot sink deep into your lips to be thoroughly nourishing. She, as well as lots of other people suggested trying Carmex, so that's exactly what I did.

I have to say, so far I'm extremely impressed by Carmex, It feels so moisturising when I apply it to my lips, and I actually enjoy the slight stinging sensation I get when I apply it, it makes me feel like the product is really doing something to my lips. I have also noticed since using Carmex that my lips are an awful lot more softer and I have had absolutely no chapping or dryness. I'm hooked!

My Winter Survival Kit- Part 1: Soap and Glory 'Hand Food'

Welcome to the first edition in my new blog series; My Winter Survival Kit. This week we will be taking a look at a product that serves my hands well during the colder months, Soap and Glory's 'Hand Food'.

This product is one of my all time favourites from Soap and Glory. It has the signature scent that we all associate with Soap and Glory which is so divine, I could sit and smell it all day long. Aside from the scent itself, the texture of the product is wonderful, it feels lovely and soft and leaves your hand feeling the same way. It's not greasy AT ALL, which is the most crucial element for me in a hand cream. There's nothing worse than putting a hand cream on, only to find you have to wait about an hour for your hands to dry before you can do anything again!

Then, we come onto the packaging. I absolutely love it, it's so girlie and pink and just fits in with the ethos of the brand. As does the name of the product, which is true Soap and Glory style is a play on words.

I can't cope without this product, and at this time of the year when my hands get dry and sore, it has an even bigger presence in my life!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

It's taken me a long time, but finally, I'm the proud owner of an Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette.

This makes me extremely happy! I adore the palette. The shades are beautiful and the palette looks extravagant. The third edition to the Naked Palettes, this offering has lots of pink toned hues with a dash of glitter and shimmer and a hint of darkness. It's, in my opinion, the perfect combination.

I've yet to use the palette, but given as Christmas is just around the corner, this little beauty will be making an appearance to give my eyes a glow during the festive season!

From my first glances, the shadows that stand out to me are Dust, Limit, Buzz, Nooner, Mugshot and Blackheart.

Also, in the box in which the palette comes in are a pack of four eye primer samples, all of which last a week. Pretty amazing to receive that too!

Do you own the Naked Palette 3? Do you like it? What are your favourite shades? Let me know!

The Christmas Tag!

It's almost time for the holiday season, and to get in to the mood for Christmas on my blog, I couldn't think of anything better than doing the Christmas Tag!

1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
The Holiday! How can you not love Jude Law?

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
I don't think so, although I remember one year, waking up on Boxing Day and there being snow outside.

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home.

4. What is your favorite Christmas song?
The Pogues- Fairytale Of New York

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
No! I can't physically do it. I feel too guilty!

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I'd love to say I can, but I'd be lying.........

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
The Christmas dinner!

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Normally fake, but this year it will be real!

9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
This is difficult, there's so much food I enjoy eating at Christmas I can't choose, I'm going to say everything!

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Giving gifts. I like seeing the look of surprise and happiness on people's faces when they open a present you've bought them.

11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
The Real Techniques Core Collection brush set I got last year.

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
New York!

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
Depends on what I'm wrapping. Some things are easier to wrap than others. I'm not brilliant but I don't make a mess of it either!

14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
My cat leaving a paw print in the frozen Turkey one year.......

15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
Is it bad I genuinely cannot remember how I found out? I really have no idea at all!

16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
Not necessarily resolutions but aims.

17. What makes the holidays special for you?
Being surrounded by the ones I love.

Benefit 'Brow Zings' Review

In the past I can openly admit to not really ever having a brow routine other than plucking them! Mainly due to the fact I've always felt that my brows have never really needed filling in as I feel that when they're plucked they're reasonably presentable. However, on the odd occasion, usually if I am really making an effort with my makeup (i,e. weekends, evenings, or any time when I have lots of time to do my makeup), I have in the past used a brown eyeshadow to fill in my eyebrows to enhance the shape of them and just make them look a bit more defined. I have also used eyebrow pencils and brow mascara's to find out what products and techniques work for me when it comes to my brow routine. Until now.

I think I have finally found the product that works for me. That product is the Benefit 'Brow Zings' brow shaping kit. It's a small palette that contains a brow wax, powder, a hard angle brush, a blending brush, tweezers and has a small compact mirror built into the lid of the palette which is perfect if you are on the go!

The technique for using this brow kit is super simple, which is great if you want to get the famous groomed Benefit brows. Firstly taking the hard angle brush you just take a bit of the the brow wax and run it through your brows to set them in place, then, using the same hard angle brush (or blending brush), take some of the powder and work on the areas of your brows which look sparse and need filling in. A
fter, if there are any stray hairs, just pluck them out using the tweezers provided in the kit, and you're done! So simple!

The great thing about this kit is that inside the box that the palette is in, there is a little booklet giving you a lesson on how to shape your brows using this kit which I think is a lovely touch.

Thanks to this kit I actually really enjoy doing my brows now! Before it seemed like such a laborious chore as I could never make them look natural. If you are thinking of purchasing this kit, definitely go for it! It is quite pricey at £24.50 but if you can afford to, it's worth the money.

NOTD: Essie 'Wicked'

I love Essie nail polishes, and while looking through the Boots website I came across this gem. The shade is called 'Wicked' which is one of Essie's red toned nail colours.

I'd been on the lookout for a deep berry/black toned nail polish for a while, especially seeing as it is now Autumn/Winter and it is the perfect colour for this time of year. 'Wicked' gave me exactly what I wanted. It''s got a great coverage and does not chip easily as all!

Priced at £7.99 it's a bargain, and as Christmas is just around the corner it would make a brilliant stocking filler!

Calvin Klein 'Reveal' Review

I actually came across this perfume when reading last month's Cosmopolitan magazine. It was part of an advert where you could smell the fragrance on the page. As soon as I had smelled it I fell in love with the fragrance, it just draws you in without you really realising.

The fragrance itself is extremely seductive, it's one of those ones where if you were to walk past someone wearing it, you'd want to walk after them to ask what scent they are wearing. It's a scent that can be worn any time- be it day or night, and it lasts very well over a long period of time. It doesn't smell as strong over the day as it would when you have first sprayed it, but it lasts nonetheless.

To describe what it smells like, the one thing that stands out to me is pepper. It smells very peppery in my opinion, but it's not outputting. In fact, it gives the scent that warmth that makes the fragrance desirable. The scent also contains raw salt, making the 'Reveal' perfume the first to do so. I can't really say I have noticed the raw salt too much, after the second time of applying it, I could, but it's not something that stands out massively to me. Again, it's the raw salt, that gives the perfume that warmth and depth. I would also say that the perfume smells musky after a while too.

The bottle that the fragrance is in, is one of the most unique bottles I have ever seen! At first I did wonder if I was going to be able to stand the bottle up as the design of it is square with curved edges. I didn't see any way of standing it up so I resigned myself to having to lay the bottle down, until, I noticed that there is
actually a flat side of one of the edges where you can stand the bottle up (phew!).

I actually bought the 30ml bottle from Boots which cost £34.20. So if you're looking for a Christmas present for that someone special, I would highly recommend this!

Boots Haul!- November 2014

I just couldn't resist the urge to make a trip onto the Boots website the other day and make some purchases. Some of the things in my haul were necessities, however, there are some products that I wanted to treat myself to, and also a couple of freebies!

--------
First, onto the necessities. Back in the summer I purchased the Origins Gin Zing moisturiser as part of a gift set which also included eye cream and mascara. Well, my moisturiser has run out and I needed to keep that moisturiser in my life. It's perfect, not greasy and just sinks straight into your skin.

I also needed some more of the Maybelline 'The Falsies' mascara. This is another product of which I always sing its praises. I've tried many mascara's over the years and none of them compare to 'The Falsies'. It's the only mascara that I've ever used that lifts my lashes and gives them definition and volume. I think it's mostly due to the fact that the wand is curved so it can get right into the base of your lashes.

Another necessity is the Rimmel Stay Matte powder. I've been running low on the for while, not helped by the fact the powder actually smashed to pieces (oops!), probably caused by me banging my makeup brush against the side of it, so I lost majority of the powder. I've learned my lesson now not to do that!

Finally, I also needed to restock up my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. I go through concealer so quickly!

-------

Now it's onto the products that I just needed to treat myself to! The first one is the Benefit Brow Zings brow kit. When it comes to my brows I just used to use a brown eyeshadow that I got in a makeup pallet and a Maybelline brow mascara. However, I've wanted to purchase a brow kit for a while and looked at lots of different ones, but I love Benefit's products and this was the kit that stood out the most to me.

I also wanted to try the Origins Charcoal Mask, mainly because my skin is so prone to imperfections and blemishes that it seemed that this was a product that would help with my problem skin.

While on the subject of my skin, I also got the Soap and Glory Make Yourself Youthful rejuvenating serum. This was mainly in the hope that it would banish my tired looking skin! It's an energy boost for your face which hopefully work some wonders.

--------

I also received some freebies in the parcel thanks to purchasing certain products. The first one is a Calvin Klein wash bag which will come in very handy. I received this having bought the new Calvin Klein fragrance, Reveal (review coming soon!). As I will be writing a review on Reveal, I've decided not to feature the product on this post, keep your eyes pealed for the review!

Another freebie I received was a mini sample of the Origins Modern Friction. Having bought two Origins products, I was eligible to receive this product. Modern Friction is a scrub, however, it's a softer scrub without the sandpaper like feeling. It contains lemon oil which smells amazing!

One last thing I'd like to point out, is how festive the Boots parcels are!

So that was my Boots Haul. I hope you enjoyed this post, remember to leave me a comment below!

Lush Christmas Wishlist!

One of the things I love most about Christmas is Lush's Christmas collection. It's always so festive and gets me in the mood for celebrating Christmas. In this post I will be going through which products have caught my eye this year.

Snow Fairy

lush.co.uk
I'll admit, it's the colour of this product that drew me to this shower gel. It's so girly and pink, I love it! It's described as being 'candy sweet' and contains seaweed which nourishes your skin. Unfortunately this product is only limited edition, so there's even more of an excuse so go out and purchase a bottle.

The Melting Snowman
lush.co.uk

This bath bomb is so cute! It also looks like something you would want to eat, which probably wouldn't be a good idea! Aside from that, I love the ingredients in it, almond oil and cocoa butter which sounds so luxurious. I can't wait to try it!

Magic Wand

lush.co.uk

Magic Wand looks amazing! I love the fact that it's re-usable, it works by 'swishing' the wand under the tap whilst running a bath creating a beautiful bubble bath. The scent is based on the shower gel I mentioned previously, Snow Fairy.

Father Christmas

lush.co.uk

I'm not going to lie, the main feature of this product that impressed me was the effect this bath bomb has on the water when you drop it in the bath. It turns the colour of the water a mix of reds and greens. Father Christmas also smells like Snow Fairy as well!

Butterbear

lush.co.uk
Lastly on my Lush wishlist, is Butterbear. This is another cute looking product from the Christmas range. This smells like Butterball, so if you love it at Christmas, you'll be able to get it during the rest of the year. I love the fact that it smells like vanilla. Vanilla and cocoa smelling bath products are my favourite!

Maybelline 'The Falsies' Volum' Express Review

Last month I was in Superdrug looking for a new Mascara as I felt that all the other Mascara's I've ever used just weren't doing what I wanted them to do, which was give my eye some definition and add volume to my lashes.

I was looking through all of the different brands when I came across a Mascara that caught my eye, Maybelline 'The Falsies'. I had remembered Tanya Burr always raving about this Mascara in her videos and I never really understood why it was until I purchased it. It's my miracle! It's all I've ever looked for in a Mascara, it gives my eye definition, makes them look fuller and best of all, it looks like I'm wearing false lashes without the fuss.

Pros

  • It's waterproof- no smudging here!
  • Lasts all day and holds the shape of your lashes, particularly if you have curled them prior to applying the Mascara.
  • The wand is curved and flexible, it really gets into your lashes.

  • As I have said previously, it gives your eyelashes definition and volume without using false lashes.
  • It only cost £7.99!

Cons

  •  It's difficult to remove, not a surprise given it's a waterproof Mascara, but if you don't want the hassle of removing a stubborn Mascara, it's not for you. It hasn't put me off, I just simply use my Clinique Cleansing Balm and it easily breaks the Mascara down.

All in all, it's a brilliant Mascara. Even more so that it's a high street brand with a reasonable price. It's definitely now become a Makeup item that I just cannot live without. The things it does to my eyes are miraculous!

My Makeup Story!

I was inspired for this post by last weeks #bbloggers chat on Twitter; "Evolution of your Makeup Routine. It got me thinking, "How has my makeup evolved, and where did it all begin?".

I was 15 when I first properly wore makeup for the first time. It was a friends birthday party and I had decided to wear makeup. I took a trip to Superdrug and bought a few makeup items from the GOSH range which included; Mascara, Pencil Eyeliner and Lip Gloss. I didn't actually apply my makeup that night, my Aunty did, it would be interesting to know how my makeup would have turned out if I had! I remember later on that night though, after I had got home from the party, realising that I didn't have anything to take my makeup off with so I just used a wet flannel! (awks).

At that point in my teenage years, I didn't wear makeup on a regular basis, and I certainly didn't wear it to School. It was when I had turned 17 and I was at Sixth Form, that I had started wearing it on a more daily basis. Even though I had begun wearing makeup, it was very minimal, I would only apply Pencil Eyeliner on the bottom of my eyelids and Mascara. I felt at this time that was enough. Gradually over those months when I was 17 and before I turned 18, I increased the amount of Makeup items I owned. Firstly I purchased a Collection 2000 Liquid Eyeliner, which was thoroughly entertaining as I ended up looking like a Panda after I first applied it!  I bought a 17 Concealer from Boots and began using that, I even used it as a Foundation sometimes (I don't know if I should have done that). Eventually, I had decided to take the plunge and begin using Foundation. I was slightly concerned about it, as I had a bad memory of one of my friends at school applying Foundation on me once and it being REALLY cakey. I was watching lots of Beauty Bloggers on Youtube at that time and one Foundation I had heard lots of good things about was the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. I went and purchased it and I was so glad I did, I could see the appeal, it was lightweight (definitely not cakey), and I actually liked the smell. Since I first purchased it, I have used other Foundations, but I have gone back to the Healthy Mix Serum, and am using it at the moment.

I'm at the point where I'm happy with my makeup routine. It's basic and minimal. I apply Foundation, Concealer, Pressed Powder, Liquid Eyeliner and Mascara, and that's it. I went through a stage of applying Eye Shadow too, but decided that I would leave that for when I really make the effort with my makeup. In hindsight, I'm so glad I waited until I was 17 to wear makeup full time. It's important when you're young to enjoy yourself and not worry about how you look and other people's perceptions, and then if you want to, start wearing makeup, if you don't, it's fine!

In The Spotlight: Marc Jacobs Fragrance Collection

I thought I would do something a bit different with this post and talk through Marc Jacobs' impressive collection of fragrances. Marc Jacobs is a renowned brand in the fragrance world, and the latest release; Daisy Dream has lived up to expectations. It's worth pointing out that I have never actually owned a Marc Jacobs fragrance but I have heard only good things about all of the fragrances released under the Marc Jacobs label. In addition, I have had a smell of the Oh Lola! perfume and it was lovely.

Starting with the first release, lets look at Daisy

Daisy was released in 2007 and is the original fragrance of the collection. Described as a floral scent with a vintage edge. I love the look of the bottle, it's simple but the Daisy's at the top of the bottle give it a classic feel.

Lola/Oh Lola!

Lola/Oh Lola! are also well known fragrances from the Marc Jacobs collection. Again, these are also floral scents, however, they are the sexy/flirtatious/seductive sisters of Daisy. Lola/Oh Lola! also is packaged in a lavish bottle.

Honey

Honey is a fragrance that is floral but with an energy tone thanks to the citrus scent from the mandarin and orange blossom. The bottle is like a bumble bee, so cute!

Dot

Another floral scent but with vanilla and musk. Dot is the sophisticated sibling of the Marc Jacobs fragrance family. In some ways the bottle reminds me of Honey, but this time the theme is a ladybird.

Daisy Dream

The scent I'm most looking forward to! I actually bought this as a gift last week and the recipient was very complimentary. I need to try this perfume! As with the other Marc Jacob fragrances, this is also a floral scent which is fresh and fruity. The bottle is dreamy and elegant!

So that was Marc Jacobs fragrances In the Spotlight! There is a common theme after a thorough analysis of the different fragrances, and that is that they all are floral scents and have quirky bottles. I love that about Marc Jacobs, it's a brand that is happy to have an individual style.

Review: Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

Up until two months ago, I had never tried a cleansing balm. I had heard lots of good things about a particular one, the Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm. It was actually watching Alix from I Covet Thee in her Evening Skincare Routine video that converted me to this product.

Normally what I will do is run some water to fill the sink, give my face a wipe with a damp flannel and then take a scoop of the cleansing balm in my fingers and massage it into my skin, where it goes from a balm to an oil in seconds, incredible! Afterwards, I just get a damp flannel again and wipe the oil off my face leaving it lovely and clean.

I am so glad I spent the £22 on this cleansing balm as in my opinion, it's worth every penny. As I said previously in the last paragraph, I had never tried a cleansing balm. Now, I couldn't imagine not using it. This particular Clinique balm is so effective at what it does. In the evening when I go to take my makeup off after a long day I'm in awe at how easily it breaks my stubborn mascara up, particularly as no wipes or cleansing water can shift it.

It's not only the product that impresses me either, another factor that encouraged me to buy this product was the packaging. For me, the packaging of a product is crucial in persuading shoppers to buy certain products as it's the first thing you notice about a product. Clinique have got it right with this cleansing balm as it's probably my favourite product based on the packaging, it looks so polished and I love the almost transparent purple base with the mirrored lid.

All in all, it's a great buy for me and as soon as I have finished this tub, I will be buying another!

Have any of you tried this cleansing balm? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments below!

Soap and Glory Haul!

On Tuesday I had decided to meet up with a few friends for a meal. On the way, I found myself in Boots admiring the Soap and Glory range. At the moment in Boots it's 3 for 2 on Bath and Bodycare from Soap and Glory, so it would have been rude not to have taken advantage of the offer, right?

The tricky part of the purchase was; which three products from the range to choose? I even consulted with one of my friends, I was so torn, I could have had everything! In the end, this was what I choose!

Hand Food

I have repurchased this product so many times, it's the best hand cream I've ever used!

 The Righteous Butter

Likewise with hand food, another favourite, this is the best body moisturiser I have ever used.

Sugar Crush

Before I bought this on Tuesday, I had never used this product before (it's a shock, I know!) I'm looking forward to using this body wash.

So that's what I got from the 3 for 2 offer on Soap and Glory at Boots! Let me know below if you have bought anything from the 3 for 2 offer, I'd love to know what you purchased!

The British Tag!

 Hello Guys!

If any of you follow or are subscribed to Sammi aka BeautyCrush, you will know that recently she created her own tag named 'The British Tag'. I absolutely love the tag and wanted to have a go myself so here are my responses!

How many cups of tea do you have a day and how many sugars?
This honestly is dependent on the day! Generally during the week I'll have about three a day, but at the weekend it can get up to four. I always have one sugar in my tea.

What is your favourite part of your roast dinner?
If I'm having a Roast Chicken, then that can be my favourite bit, but I also love roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings AND stuffing. It's too difficult to decide between all of those, I just love roast dinners!

What is your favourite dunking biscuit?
Bourbons. Hands down

What is your favourite quintessentially British pastime?
Monopoly!

What is your favourite word?
Spiffing (excellent FYI)

What is your favourite sweet?
I'm not really a sweet fan. I prefer chocolate!

What would your pub be called?
House of CarrieFi

Who is your no1 British person?
Adele, obvs.

What is your favourite shop/restaurant?
For my favourite shop it has to be Topshop. For a restaurant, I'm not too sure, but you can't go wrong with a good Fish and Chip shop, especially at the seaside!

What British song pops into your head?
Oasis- Wonderwall

Marmite?
No thanks.

If you read this, have a go and send me the link to yours!

My Olivia Burton lust

That moment when you fall in love........ Yeah, that.

This time, it happens to be a watch, a very beautiful watch at that. The item in question is the Olivia Burton
'Big Dial Bracelet Rose Gold' watch. It's a gorgeous statement bracelet style which has an oversized dial as the name suggests.

Olivia Burton watches were born after founders and former London College of Fashion students, Lesa Bennett and Jemma Fennings struggled to find a stylish watch on the market that suited their fashion needs. Their creations are inspired by vintage looks and catwalk styles for the everyday chic woman.

Back to the watch......

When looking through the Olivia Burton website through all the wonderfully magnificent watches, I really did find it difficult to decide on a watch that I wanted, purely because there were a few that caught my eye that I really wanted to purchase. However, the Rose Gold Bracelet style watch just seemed more glam? I felt it would suit my style more and my personality, so it just seemed perfect. At the time of writing, I have yet to actually buy the watch (I'm waiting until ASOS get them back in stock). Clearly I have chosen to purchase a VERY popular watch!

Have you bought an Olivia Burton watch? Let me know what you think of them!

NOTD: Essie 'Sand Tropez' (with a twist!)

Hello again everyone!

I know what you're thinking....."Why does that Nail Polish look familiar?". Well, that's because this shade has been featured on this blog before, nearly two months ago!

I thought I would feature this shade again, not only because I love the colour, but because this time I've decided to put a twist on it. That twist comes in the form of my Avon ColorTrend Glitter Top Coat. I absolutely love this top coat, I just added on to the nails on my ring finger on both hands to instantly add glamour to my already painted nails!

Let me know what shades you've been picking for your nails below!
