Birchbox June 2017

I always used to consider subscribing to a beauty subscription service, but with so many different companies in the market, I have to admit, I felt overwhelmed for choice. However, after doing a lot of research I decided in October 2016 to subscribe to Birchbox - the UK's No 1 Beauty Box.

When subscribing to Birchbox you are required to fill out a beauty profile so that every month the products which are sent to you are tailored to your beauty needs. It's really easy to set up your profile, and once it's done you just need to sit tight and await your box with anticipation of what surprises are in store for you each month! You can change your beauty profile at any time if your requirements change; again it's really easy to make these changes.

At the time of writing this post, my Birchbox landed on my doorstep only a couple of hours ago! June's Birchbox is very summery themed, and rather than the products being in a box, this month they are stored in a lovely looking bag which will be perfect for a summer holiday! There was a choice between two colours, a yellow striped or mint striped bag. I got an email a couple of weeks ago from Birchbox enquiring which colour bag I would prefer and I chose to be surprised with either bag.

I received the yellow striped bag, and I really love it! It will definitely be well used. Inside the bag are five items, two are full size items and the other three are sample sizes. The two full size items I received were the MeechNMia Brow Liner and Cowshed's Cow Pat Hand Cream. Hand cream is always well received by me because I always tend to get dry skin on my hands. The other products I received are the Arrow Enhance Waterproof Eyeliner in Bright Now, Scrub Love Coffee Body Scrub and Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo.

What I really like about Birchbox is that every month I have an opportunity to try brands and products that I would never have considered trying before, and it opens my eyes up to what's available in the beauty market. The cost of a Birchbox subscription is only £12.95 a month which I feel is worth it considering you get two full size beauty products and three samples every month, and of course the boxes, or bags, which the products come in, are re-usable. I'm really looking forward to discovering what else I receive from Birchbox in the coming months!

Benefit B.Right! Total Moisture Facial Cream Review

Recently when purchasing a few Benefit goodies, I was lucky enough to receive a couple of freebies which were gratefully received. I've really been getting into skincare, and making sure that I'm looking after my skin the best that I can. As part of my new skincare routine, I've been making the most out of one of the samples I got which is the Total Moisture Facial Cream.

This facial cream is super hydrating but is also very nourishing. I found that you actually don't need a lot of product to work into your skin - a lot goes a long way here. I have combination skin, sometimes it can be oily and sometimes it can feel dry and look dull. After using the facial cream, my skin felt as soft as a baby's and made it look very glowy and radiant which is something I can only dream of usually.

It's worth pointing out that although this is quite a thick moisturiser, it's not at all greasy unlike other moisturisers. So even though it makes your skin look glowy, it's not because it's greasy, it's because it's hydrating your skin thanks to mango butter, a natural plant-based emollient which is an ingredient in this product. Also, I love the packaging of this moisturiser. It's so minimalist and looks amazing in the glass jar, really fancy!

I really feel like there's a beauty to trying freebies, sometimes you find something you really like and sometimes not. This facial cream is a product that I have definitely fallen in love with and will almost certainly be purchasing once the current jar of this I'm using runs out.

May Beauty Wishlist

It's been such a long time, but I'm so excited and ready to sit down and blog again! I'm back with one of my favourite posts to write which is my monthly beauty wishlist.

This month's theme very much steers towards a nude lip which I still absolutely love, it's such a versatile look, and is a shade I can confidently wear on my lips. I've been scouring through lots of retailer's to find more nude lipsticks to add to my collection and one of the products I found is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution Lipstick. This is such a beautiful nude colour not to mention how beautiful the packaging of the product looks too. This Lipstick has only recently been launched, thanks to the popularity of the lip liner of the same name.

I've also included some liquid lipsticks to my wishlist this month. Liquid lipsticks haven't really been something I would have considered purchasing before; however after seeing reviews and swatches, it's made me want to give them a go. The two liquid lipsticks on my wishlist are the Smashbox Always on Matte in Stepping Out and the whole of the NYX Lip Lingerie range! I say the whole range because I simply cannot decide which shade is my favourite of all of them and they all look wearable colours that I would enjoy.

Moving away from lips and onto my next current obsession at the moment - Skincare! This isn't a bad thing, but where I used to see a skincare routine as hard work and too much effort I'm actually really enjoying putting together a regime and sticking to it. I'm very keen to make sure that my skin is as clean as possible when I'm not wearing makeup and the product that I've included on my wishlist to help me with that is the Caroline Hirons for Pixi Double Cleanse.

Charlotte Tilbury's Wonderglow is another addition to my wishlist. Wonderglow is a primer which gives your skin a glow either under your foundation or on its own. For the summer months, I feel that this is a product which will be amazing in a bronzed sun kissed makeup look.

The next product on my wishlist isn't particularly exciting; however it's one that I want to incorporate into my skincare routine. It's the Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Charcoal Pore Strips. Pulling blackheads out of your skin isn't exactly glamorous, but if it improves my complexion and reduces how clogged my pores are, then its well worth the purchase.

The hair care side of my wishlist includes the Percy and Reed Wonder Cleanse and Nourish Shampoo and the Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Overnight Recovery. The Shampoo is unlike a normal shampoo in that it actually doesn't lather up, and it's said to leave your hair colour luminous and promote hair growth. The Overnight Recovery is a hair mask which you can put on before you got to bed, however it dries into your hair so you don’t have to worry about residue on your pillow, in the morning you can wash the mask off your hair.

The last product on my wishlist is the Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Finishing Hair Brush. I love Tangle Teezer brushes, and this brush is designed to help perfect and style your hair when you want to backcomb and put it up.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash Review

Most of you will be familiar with the popular Garnier Micellar Water; it's been an absolute staple in my skincare routine for at least a couple of years now.

Garnier have now added to their growing Micellar cleansing range and have just introduced the Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash to the market. When I saw that this product had been released I was interested straight away. I use the micellar water religiously because I feel that it's so effective at doing what it does so I needed to know if the gel wash was as good as it said it was. It's a product where micellar technology has been incorporated into a face cleanser meaning that not only does it remove your makeup, it also cleanses your face at the same time, getting rid of any dirt, grime, pollution or impurities that are lingering after a long day. The gel wash comes in a bottle not too dissimilar to the micellar water bottle, the only difference in packaging being the pump dispenser which makes getting the gel out so easy, especially when I was mid way through using the product and I had my eyes shut but needed more of the cleanser.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how well the gel wash removed my makeup! I used the gel wash to double cleanse my skin, working in a circular massaging motion to really get the product into my skin and then rinsed it off using a damp flannel. After that I used a face wipe just to see if anymore dirt came off my face, and to my amazement nothing did! I also found that as a face wash it was very gentle and didn't cause too much discomfort around the eye area which is perfect when you are massaging the product in and removing your eye makeup.

It proves that this gel wash really does work and is so effective at removing everything off your face. It's absolutely true that the micellar technology acts as a magnet on your skin and it's amazing to see all the makeup and dirt being pulled off of your face while leaving your skin feeling so soft. What's more, it's so affordable! At the time of writing this post, I purchased the gel wash for £2.66 from Boots instead of the usual price £3.99 which was a saving of £1.33.

March Beauty Favourites

Welcome back to my monthly wishlist posts, I can't wait to share with you what's on my beauty wishlist in March! It's been a while since I have written one of these posts so I'm super excited to be writing this!

You'll perhaps notice that now we're beginning to approach Spring that there are some products on my wishlist that are appropriate for (hopefully) the weather to start being warmer. After a long and very cold winter I really want my skin to look more glowy and healthy, for this I will be recruiting my favourite gradual tanner, Dove Summer Revived. Since I last purchased this product it's had a complete re-branding and looks slightly different to what I've had before when it used to be called Dove Summer Glow, but I'm hoping the product will be just as good after the re-branding as it was before.

Also on my wishlist is the This Works Perfect Legs Skin Miracle, again thanks to the cold weather I really struggle with the skin on my legs, they become very dry and itchy which just doesn't look good when it comes to warmer weather, so to prepare, this product will take care of my skin and give my legs the glow that they've been lacking for the last few months.

Speaking of my legs, recently I have been using body scrubs a lot more consistently and made a routine of including them in my skincare routine. It's really helped to prevent dry skin and has made my skin feel so much smoother and not irritated at all. I love Soap and Glory and the Sugar Crush Body Scrub is a product I haven't tried before but knowing what the scent smells like, is one that I'd really like to give a go.

Dry skin on my legs hasn't been my only concern this Winter; I have also had chapped hands far too much too. Although I use hand creams religiously throughout the day a lot of them haven't been nourishing enough. I've heard that the L'Occitane Shea Intensive Hand Balm is ideal for curing very dry hands, so I really hope this lives up to its reputation!

There's a new beauty release coming up on Thursday which I have been very excited waiting for! It's the new highlighter by Too Faced called Love Light and it looks totally fabulous! It's so shiny and glowy that this will be a perfect pick me up in my makeup routine just in time for Spring/Summer. There's three shades to choose from, Ray of Light (Rose Gold), You Light Up My Life (Gold) and Blinded By The Light (Silver).

Moving on to skincare, I have included the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm and Oil on my list, I've used the balm before and it was scarily good at removing my makeup, I've never used another product which has been as good as that at getting every last scrap of makeup off my face before. I've never tried the oil before but I'd like to, and compare it to the balm.

Lastly on my list is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrate Recovery Eye Mask, I've never used an eye mask before, but they do a lot for the skin under your eyes, making them look and feel so refreshed. It's an area of your face that gives everything away especially if you're tired!

Lush 'Snow Fairy' Body Conditioner Review

A few months ago when the Lush Christmas range was released, one of the products I happened to pick up was the Magic Wand. Magic Wand is one of Lush's bubble bars which is on a stick but is shaped like a star and scented just like the Snow Fairy shower gel.

After I wrote my Lush Christmas Haul and posted it on Twitter I was tweeted by Lush asking me if I had tried the Snow Fairy body conditioner and I hadn't! Luckily for Christmas I received a Lush gift set which contained the Snow Fairy body conditioner, and a few weeks ago I gave it go.

One of my recent goals I have made for myself is that I want to try and aim to use a product I wouldn't usually use that I own at least once a week. This product was the first that I picked out from my vast drawer of bath and body products that I have accumulated!

I actually gave a live review of this product on my Twitter which was my first impressions after I had stepped out of the bath and used the body conditioner.

To go in to a bit more detail about the product, it's like moisturising your skin while you're in the bath/shower. You use the conditioner after cleansing/shaving/scrubbing your skin and it will leave you with silky smooth skin which smells like candyfloss just like the Snow Fairy shower gel/Magic Wand bubble bar would leave you smelling.

As I said in my tweet I really like this product, it makes so much of a difference to your skin to make it feel super soft and to have the scent lying on your skin for ages after your bath/shower especially as the scent of most products fade after you use them. It's definitely best if you use either the Snow Fairy shower gel or Magic Wand bubble bar in addition to get the most of the scent but even just using one of those products is enough to make you smell fabulous!

Another thing to point out is that you really don't need to use too much of the conditioner, a little bit absolutely goes a long way, and using too much can actually leave your skin feeling slightly sticky as I found out! That being said, I adore this product and it's a welcome addition to my bath/shower routine, it's just a shame you can't purchase this the whole year round!
